Extra Plat

Through great attention to detail, this Daniel Roth "Extra Plat" had conquered dimension to conjure impossible volume from near nothing.

Upon my wrist its presence felt ephemeral, a ghost that left me wondering if it was there at all. Yet through its face, I witnessed the hours and seconds smoothly cede as if a dream were dissolving at dawn. In minimalism it had found fullness, in lack it embodied mastery, the depth of skilled hands that created a watch from a whisper on my wrist.

Manufactured by Roth in the early 1990s, this rare ultra thin reference 2167 is so much more than just a time-only watch.

Whilst most of Daniel Roth's early pieces were created in yellow gold, this one is an extremely rare rose gold variant.

Showcasing Roth's mastery through the grey pinstripe guilloche dial, the Ellipsocurvex case which Roth invented features straight "Breguet" lugs and an intricately finished dimensional dial. At just 6mm thick, this is a rare timepiece with an even rarer sapphire case back (manufactured on special order from Roth) exhibiting the hand-finished DR 167 movement with its off centre gilded rotor.

Personal Collection.
