The elusive 1971 Omega De Ville Super-Emeraude or the "Sugar Cube". Thick, unapologetic and still looking like it arrived from a parallel decade where Swiss factories actually listened to jewelers.

Andrew Grima didn't design watches because he needed the time. In 1969 Omega commissioned his experimental 'About Time' pieces; sculpture that happened to tell time. The commercial fallout arrived in 1971: the Emerald line, produced only until 1973. Grima's rule was simple: build the watch around the dial. Case, crystal, proportions all served the face.

The Super-Emeraude was inspired by Grima and features an emerald-cut sapphire crystal with architectural facets that catch light like a cut stone . Champagne dial with minimal indexes and an ultra-thin automatic Caliber 663 (24 jewels, 21,600 A/h) underneath . The stepped, geometric case measures 28mm wide by 36mm lug-to-lug, with a thickness of 12mm . Gold-plated (20 microns , yet denser and more intentional than most solid-gold contemporaries.

Short production window. Strong design DNA. Fifty-five years later, it still looks modern because Grima never cared about looking modern. He cared about making something inevitable.
