Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Vogue wasn’t a mainstream flex. It was a connoisseur’s handshake from a manufacture whose story began back in 1833, when Charles‑Antoine LeCoultre set up shop in the Vallée de Joux.

In 1844, he had introduced the millionomètre; a device capable of measuring to the micron. By 1851, this had earned him a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition, which feels less like award and more like history politely stepping aside.

Then came the 1925 union with Edmond Jaeger. The result was a run of icons; the famous Duoplan, the tiny Calibre 101, the Reverso in 1931 and the superb Memovox in 1951. So by the time 1969 rolled around, JLC wasn’t experimenting out of desperation. It was experimenting out of confidence.

Forget the polite contrasts of gilt-and-stone we have featured before. This version goes all in: full lapis lazuli. No chapter ring cameo, no “accent” stone; the lapis is the point. It’s decadent in the way only natural materials can be: not perfectly uniform, not sterile, but alive with flecks and depths that shift as you move.

Then there’s the case: tonneau; that beautifully 60s/70s silhouette that is both dressy and rebellious.

The best part? Watches like this come from an era when Jaeger‑LeCoultre was quietly making pre‑Richemont oddities with world-class finishing and almost no appetite for mass recognition. Production numbers were never the point; which is exactly why they’re so hard to find in this condition now.
