Cartier first introduced the Tank in 1917, inspired by the Renault FT-17 tanks and the Tank Louis Cartier or Tank LC in 1924, which is the benchmark for all tank models. Nearly 5 decades later in 1973, 12 shaped models were launched within the new Louis Cartier Collection, including the tortoise shaped “Tortue” featured here.

Where did Louis Cartier's fascination with the tortoise begin? Perhaps it was in the philosophy of Art Nouveau with its organic forms and asymmetry.
