By the 1930s, Cartier had already spent thirty years arguing with the circle. The Tank, the Santos, the Carré; each one a refusal of the pocket watch's inheritance, each one proof that the maison's real complication was shape.

This is that argument reduced to its bottom line. A rare Carré Duoplan in 18k yellow gold, the flanks still carrying the original finish, the dial still white, the Romans still black, the chemin de fer still drawing the square inside a square. And in the centre, the word that changes the room. France. Not London. Not New York. Not Paris. The France signature is the rarest variant on these and it almost never arrives this intact.

The symmetry here is not by accident. Edmond Jaeger's Duoplan put the crown at the back; the winding and hand-setting crown was positioned on the reverse of the case, enabling the clean Art Deco lines Cartier demanded . That is the whole point, hidden where only the person winding it will ever look.

You do not buy this to complete a set. You buy it because you already know what a Tank feels like, and you want the one Cartier made when the square was still an argument, that almost nobody can find.

Our warranty does not apply to any accidental damage or mishandling of your watch and excludes the bracelet, case parts (including pushers, winding stem, crown and bezel), watch glass, dial and hands.
