Inspired by the Renault tanks being used on the Western Front, Louis Cartier first launched the Tank wristwatch in 1918. Not to be outdone and with its own distinguished history, Audemars Piguet introduced a similar model in the 1920s, equipped with a triple calendar and a moon phase.

For many, the model is a footnote to the much bolder narrative around the famed Royal Oak but we think it deserves a deeper look. Defined by an elongated rectangular case that evokes early 20th century Art Deco design, the Edward Piguet collection is considered by many collectors as the worthiest in terms of craftsmanship.

Perpetual calendars are the hallmark of complicated watches and this represents the best of them. Launched in 1991, Audemars Piguet’s Edward Piguet Quantième Perpétuel Ref. 25682 featured what was at that time the world’s smallest and thinnest perpetual calendar caliber, showcasing their mastery over intricate mechanisms.

Two versions of the dial are known; the first features Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, while the second; true to its Art Deco heritage, was equipped with stick hands and applied stick indexes. The rarest models produced in the very limited period from 1991 to 1993, such as the one shown here, carried a small logo while those produced after 1993 had a larger logo in the same position, below the moonphase indicator.

Presented here in excellent condition, unrestored and unpolished.
